God is Not at Fault!
If there is one thing that Christian Churches are increasingly finding consensus on, it is that there is a Satanic agenda in this world, and at the forefront of this is the working of demons. These entities have individual personalities of their own, and this is confirmed in the New Testament, particularly in the ministry of the Lord Jesus when He was here on earth.
The subject of how demons came to be, and that they are not angels, is a Bible study on its own, which cannot be covered here. It is sufficient for now for the reader to understand that these disembodied spirits all have specific tasks they perform, that are linked to their personalities and abilities. These directly impact our lives as their attention is focused on us from time to time during our earthly walk with the Lord.
When therefore we speak of “the Religious Spirit”, we are not speaking of a personal attitude or of a worldly aspect such as “a team spirit”. We are speaking of an actual demonic person, and the title given them alludes to the specific approach that they take when launching an attack on humanity as a whole, and on the Church in particular. This attack may be an assault on our thought life, or an attack through another human being who is under demonic influence and/or control.
The Religious Spirit is hard at work – taking advantage of the global chaos. We have heard several people say that all of the recent calamities we are seeing are God’s punishment upon us all.
When people talk like this it is no wonder that they want nothing to do with God. He is misrepresented to the world as some disaster-wielding deity. This is sad because the Religious Spirit exploits the work being done by the Spirit of Fear that makes people wrongly see God in this way.
In 1 John 4:18 (NLT)the Apostle John declares;
“…love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love”.
When people are preoccupied with fear, punishment and judgement, it is a clear indicator that the true Gospel of Christ has never penetrated their lives. This pure and simple Gospel of the Kingdom is one of love and of overcoming our challenges in this world. People who don’t know the perfect love of God open themselves up to the enemy, and give him a foothold in their lives. This is when the Spirit of Fear and the Religious Spirit has an opportunity to turn their lives upside down. The Spirit of Fear announces to us that “disaster is coming”. The Religious Spirit convinces people it is the handiwork of God.
IT IS NOT GOD’S FAULT that the world is in calamity. If anything, God wants to protect us from all the harmful influences of this world. Instead, prodigal sons, walk out of God’s protection when they follow our own wills and desires. The Lord’s presence departs from us, as God cannot sanction wrongful behaviour of any kind. This is not a harsh rejection of the person, as any loving and responsible earthly parent will tell you; it’s just that one cannot sanction the behaviour of a rebellious child. If we persist in continuing as such, we choose to face the world alone, without His protection and safety.
Left to their own devices long enough, wayward Christians begin to replace the rock of their salvation with another foundation made of the sand of theory and unbelief. It is at this point that the demonic spirits spring into action, eagerly supplying the rotting timbers of self-delusion which shore up so many deceived believers. This delusion can be so encompassing, that even the world sees what the blinded soul cannot. Sadly, only at her death in childbirth did the daughter-in-law of wicked Eli the High Priest proclaim; “Ichabod” (the glory is departed from Israel) and gave her child that sad name (1 Samuel 4:21 NLT). May we never reach such a stage, that we only see the actual reality of our emptiness when it is too late.
God surrounds His children. He protects and nurtures those whom He loves and who obey Him. Even Satan acknowledged Job’s position as a child of God saying in Job 1:10 (NLT):
“You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is!”
As long as anyone refuses the saving work of Jesus Christ, they will always remain in a state of meaningless emptiness. The Lord Jesus said in John 10:10 (NLT) concerning Satan; “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” This is a message that even children can understand; God is only good, but the evils we have spoken of, including sickness, come from Satan and his agents.
Once Satan has been given the opportunity to devastate a person’s life, they are left in a state of confusion. This is especially true for Christians who have wandered outside of God’s will. They believe they are destined for glory, but only see curse -what confusion! This is not God’s fault, as our God is a God of order, not confusion. Happily, the answer to a Christian’s calamity is near at hand for Jesus said; “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” John 14:27 (NLT).
Sadly, most people refuse to take up the offer which is coupled to repentance and obedience. In Matthew 23:37 (NLT) Jesus mourned over Jerusalem in her continuing rebellion and resultant confusion, saying; “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me”.
Jerusalem’s name means “Double peace”, an irony, considering that it has historically been a city of constant turmoil and violence. When we reject God as the people of Jerusalem had done, then we open ourselves up to the exploitation of Satan and to all the forces of evil.
Satan is the one responsible for bringing the nations low, for destroying cities and for killing people (Isaiah 14:6). We need to understand that he and his wicked agents will continue their destruction upon this world for as long as God permits.
Part of this destruction is manifested in global markets that show continual instability. God cannot be blamed for this, for He did not invent the economy of this world – mankind did. Its collapse is the fault of human greed and failure, attributes which the enemy exploits to bring massive destruction upon man.
God made a good and perfect world – it is the enemy that has brought his corruption into this world. Sadly, people have chosen to open themselves up to the wicked one because they love the darkness he brings (John 3:19).
As children of the light, we must keep shining brightly until that day when Jesus returns for us. Though you are amid the turmoil of this world, don’t allow devilish spirits to whisper their lies in your ear. It isn’t God’s fault when things go wrong. It is time we use the chaos as a platform to share the light, love and peace of God in the current circumstances that are traumatizing this world we live in.
We need to share the truth in love which is: “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow” (James 1:17 [NLT]). This is the God that we serve, this is the Father whom we worship. The ever-faithful and loving God, who never lets us down. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Embrace Him.
